What Are The Regulations For Placing A Fuel Refinery?

Posted by admin on Jul 22 2013 | Uncategorized
Fuel refining benefits the economy and the environment in a variety of ways. Refining fuel gives people medicine and the ability to transport goods across the nation. Truckers use refined fuel to bring you goods from different parts of the world such as fruits, vegetables and meats. Without refined fuel, the world would be a different place. If fuel were not refined, there would be too many metals found within the fuel. It is important that the costs of oil refineries stay low enough to keep the price of gasoline at an affordable price. Many people around the world depend on gasoline to get to their jobs.

Drilling technology advancements have made it possible to find oil and gas within the United States. Experts predict this will reduce the country's dependency on foreign oil. Many large oil companies are working hard to offer this oil and gasoline to the American people at lower costs than foreign countries. The oil crisis in the past have made government agencies put more money into finding oil within the United States. It is predicted that future oil prices will drop significantly lower than they are today. Refining oil at a lower cost is a high-priority across the nation.

What Are Some Of The Biggest Refineries?

Posted by admin on May 24 2013 | Uncategorized
Refineries are an important part of the oil business. This is where crude oil is taken and turned into the products that consumers use every single day. Some of the top refineries are able to produce more than 100,000 barrels per day. Here are some of the top refineries in the United States.

Exxon Mobil
Not only is Exxon Mobil one of the top names in the oil industry, it also owns more than one of the biggest oil refineries in the country. Exxon's Baytowm, Texas refinery puts out more than 560,000 of barrels per day. Exxon Mobil also owns the second biggest refinery located in Baton Rouge Louisiana. This refinery puts out about 500,000 barrels per day Exxon also owns refineries in Joliet, Illinois and Beaumont, Texas.

Hovensa, LLC
While Hovensa may not be a household name it does own the third largest refinery in the country. This refinery is located in the U.S. Virgin Islands and puts out about 500,000 barrels per day.

How Is Crude Oil Processed Through Machinery?

Posted by admin on Mar 28 2013 | Uncategorized
Everyone has seen crude oil on TV or in the movies. According to the movies, that black fluid is the same as liquid gold. For it to become truly valuable, crude oil undergoes a complex refining process. This article will attempt to explain it in a simple manner.

Crude oil is made up of hydrocarbons, which are molecules that contain carbon and hydrogen of different types. The first step is to separate the different hydrocarbons. Each of them has a different boiling point, so they can be separated through a heating process known as fractional distillation.

After the crude oil is distilled, it is transferred to separate holding tanks for further treatment. A process known as cracking uses heat or a catalyst to break longer hydrocarbon chains into smaller pieces. Unification takes place when small hydrocarbon chains are reformed to make larger ones. Some of the hydrocarbons are altered on the molecular level to turn them into high octane hydrocarbons which are commonly used as gasoline additives.

At this point the fractions are chemically treated with different organic compounds in order to remove salts, tars and sulfur. The fractions can then be blended to form kerosene, diesel fuel and gasoline.
